PRESENTATION: Used Vehicles and the Environment - A Global Overview of Used Light Duty Vehicles

During the "Safer and Cleaner Used Vehicles for Africa" webinar held on April 8, 2021, Jane Akumu - the African Cleaner Mobility Focal Point of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - delivered a presentation on the recently published UNEP report entitled Used Vehicles and the Environment – A Global Overview of Used Light-Duty Vehicles: Flow, Scale, and Regulation. The presentation provides an overview of the global trade in used vehicles, with a focus on African examples. It also calls for action to put in place regulations, standards, and processes ensuring that Africa will only receive quality used vehicles. This will generate major road safety benefits for both car drivers and other road users, as well as co-benefits for the environment and economy.
