Advancing Paratransit / Popular Transport - From Understanding to Action

This half-day event is dedicated to knowledge sharing and discussions on pathways to improve paratransit services in developing cities. It combines plenary presentations, a roundtable, and interactive workshops to collectively reflect on key themes for the industry. Paratransit Day is brought to you by the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP), the Global Network for Popular Transportation (GNPT), the Partnership for Research on Informal and Shared Mobility (PRISM), Research on Infrastructure in Developing Economies (RIDE), the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF), the World Bank, and the World Resources Institute (WRI).

  • Take stock of the latest trends and evidence on paratransit across regions
  • Identify concrete action areas
  • Strengthen collaboration between key stakeholders

Draft Program:

This year’s edition of Paratransit Day includes parallel workshops on the following themes:

  • Public Health and Road Safety – Air pollution, road safety, climate adaptation, and the role of popular transport in access to health services and care work
  • Business Models and Financing – Fleet renewal, financial viability, incentives, and the roles of governments, operators, and private sector actors
  • Regulation of Two-Wheelers – Regulatory approaches for paratransit and motorcycle taxis, including lessons from global regulatory scans and emerging model frameworks
