Traffic Management

ITS can assist bus services as they operate in difficult traffic conditions. The most common ITS Application is to provide priority for bus services at traffic signals – to give the bus a green light at the earliest safe opportunity. This can improve both the journey time and the reliability of the bus services.

ITS can also be used to allow bus service selective access to restricted zones, and to enforce against violations of bus-only facilities by general traffic.

The Traffic Management cluster consists of four Applications:

• Interface with adaptive traffic control systems
• Public transport lane/facility violation monitoring
