3.7. Engendering Organizational Structures

Mainstreaming gender within the organizational structures of transport-related ministries, transport businesses in the private sector, transport unions, associations and other transport related entities is essential for effectively creating capacity and a constituency to ensure that the issues are systematically addressed. This can be done by:

  • Working with intermediary organizations
  • Creating multi-sectoral transport planning committees
  • Involving the private sector
  • Adopting international standards for equitable hiring, wages, advancement,and retrenchment
  • Organizational capacity building
  • Addressing imbalances in staffing and equitable representation of women in organizations
