Incident analysis

Incident analysis

Description / objective

The principal areas requiring incident analysis relate to: traffic delays, and their impact on schedule adherence; vehicle defects, and their requirement for replacement vehicles and unproductive kilometers; and collisions with pedestrians, vehicles, or infrastructure.

ITS applications

Analysis of traffic delays can be facilitated by route condition monitoring and schedule adherence applications. Vehicle defect analysis can be facilitated by in-vehicle data capture of the technical status of drive-train, electrical system status, and braking system status. Collision analysis can be facilitated by automated vehicle location, surveillance equipment and in-vehicle data capture technologies with respect to speed prior to the collision and the driving style in that period.

Advantages and cautions

Information for analysis from these sources may only be partial, and supporting evidence should be sought wherever possible.
