Examples of Public and Private Initiatives, Including Wellness Centers, for Tackling HIV/AIDS

HIV & AIDS Good Practices

HIV/AIDS programs do exist which encompass policy, strategy and service delivery engaging road, rail, and other transport systems, principally directed at prevention. Such activities have been undertaken by the public sector and non-State sector, as well as combinations of public and private efforts. Examples include the GLIA corridor (underwritten entirely by the public sector), the North Star Alliance in southern Africa (a private/public sector partnership), and the Federation of Eastern and Southern African Road Transport Associations (FESARTA) in its effort to monitor and plans to scale up its “Wellness Centers”, which are combinations of health clinic and educational facilities using converted shipping containers located at "hot spots" along major corridors.
