2nd ARSO Workshop in Abuja: Towards the Establishment of a Road Safety Observatory in Africa

This document summarizes attendees, agenda and outcomes of the 2nd workshop held in Nigeria which had an intense focus on the definition of a minimum number of crash-related variables to be collected at the country level. It also rose awareness of the many country-level evaluations conducted by one agency or another in recent years in the continent regarding road safety and road safety data issues.

Zimbabwe Hosts SSATP's 2019 Annual General Meeting in Victoria Falls (Presentations included)

 

Hosted by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, the 2019 SSATP Annual Meeting took take place in Victoria Falls on November 25-29, 2019. The central theme of this year’s SSATP General Assembly taking place on November 29th was “Positioning Africa for a Sustainable Post-2020 Road Safety Agenda.”

2018 SSATP Annual Meeting (Presentations)

The Annual Meeting of the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) was held in Abuja, Nigeria during the week of July 2-6, 2018. Over 250 participants attended the meeting from 30 countries (11 Ministers, 6 Permanent Secretaries), 7 Regional Economic Communities (ECOWAS, SADC, CEEAC, UEMOA, EAC, COMESA, IGAD), and 11 International Financing Institutions and Development Partners (EU, AfDB, AFD, WBG, GIZ, ISDB, UNECA, IRU, JICA, USAID, AUC).

SSATP 2013 Annual Meeting & Africa Transport Policy Forum

The Africa Transport Policy Program and the Government of Senegal are pleased to announce that the 2013 Annual Meeting and the first Africa Transport Policy Forum will take place in Dakar, Senegal from December 10-12, 2013

The first Africa Transport Policy Forum will take place on December 10-11, 2013. It is a 2-day learning event that will give participants a unique opportunity to learn about and discuss high-priority transport policy issues in Africa. This event will be open to all interested participants.

Accelerating Road Safety Action through the African Road Safety Observatory

The African Union Commission (AUC) and the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP, an international partnership administered by the World Bank) with the support of South Africa’s Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA) are hosting the First General Assembly of the African Road Safety Observatory (ARSO) at the Fairmont Zimbali Resort in Durban, South Africa on the 27-28 June 2019.

Leaders in Urban Transport Planning Workshop for Anglophone African Countries

As part of its Urban Transport and Mobility Pillar capacity building activities, SSATP in collaboration with the Leaders in Urban Transport Planning (LUTP) team hosted by the World Bank Group is organizing a Leaders in Urban Transport Training Program. The first session was organized for Anglophone member countries of the Africa Transport Policy Program. The LUTP training aims to help technocrats understand policy options for improving the urban transport and mobility situation in African cities. 

REC-TCC Meeting in Abidjan hosted by ACMA

The Regional Economic Communities Transport Coordination Committee (REC-TCC) facilitated by SSATP is the premier forum providing the Africa regional integration and trade facilitation community the opportunity to review progress on their respective programs, exchange experience and coordinate their activities. 

Last year in Nairobi, the REC-TCC articulated a priority work program under SSATP's newly launched Third Development Plan (DP3), covering notably the following activities: 

SSATP at CODATU XVI in Istanbul, Turkey

SSATP presented its urban mobility and accessibility policy paper at the XVIth CODATU Conference held in Istanbul, Turkey on February 2, 2015.

SSATP was member of the panel on “Urban transport and climate change” during a plenary session attended by approximately 300 participants on the opening day of the conference. SSATP also contributed to the breakout session on urban mobility in Africa with about 80 participants on February 5th.
