Transport Coordination Committee of the Regional Economic Communities (REC-TCC) Meeting

Integration, connectivity and cohesion was identified as one of the focus areas of the SSATP during its third development plan (DP3 2014-2018). The objectives of the SSATP in this area are to: (i) promote effective policy and strategy formulation and implementation for corridor development at country and regional levels; (ii) develop capacity among institutions (RECs, countries, corridors, industry associations, etc.) for inclusive policy dialogue on regional integration; and (iii) promote efficient logistics services.

SSATP Working Group on Urban Mobility & Accessibility

SSATP undertook, in partnership with the Swiss State Secretariat of Economy (SECO), a study on mobility and accessibility in urban areas in Africa covering the trends and challenges, emerging issues and strategies that address them. As part of the study, a policy paper was developed which provides orientations to African countries on how to transform their cities into engines of growth, development and poverty reduction.

REC-TCC Meeting, Cotonou

The REC Transport Coordination Committee (REC-TCC) met on October 15-19, 2012 in Cotonou, Benin.The objectives of the meeting were to build on the cooperation between donors, RECs and corridors revived in the previous REC-TCC meeting held in Mombasa. ALCO hosted this REC-TCC workshop meeting. REC-TCC Meeting: Workshop of Corridor Performance Monitoring

The SSATP Corridor Program is a subset of the SSATP Regional Integration Component, aiming mainly at establishing transport observatories on several Sub-Sahara Africa corridors. This program was launched mid 2011, and is covering a period of two years, until June 2013. Most of the activities planned in the program had been launched by the beginning of the year 2012, and the time was ripe to review the status of the various monitoring exercises and surveys conducted so far in order to incorporate lessons learnt in the program.

Seminar on Urban Transport: Preparing for SSATP's DP3

SSATP held a seminar on urban transport, which took place the day after concluding the CODATU Conference (October 22-25, 2012) on the theme of “The role of urban mobility in (re)shaping cities”. The objective of the meeting was to reach a consensus and a common understanding on urban transport policy issues related to mobility and accessibility in sub-Saharan Africa, and to provide a strategic vision for the proposed SSATP Third Development Program (DP3 2014-2017). The participants represented central governments, local governments, transport institutions, the

6th Africa Transport Technology Transfer (T2) Conference

SSATP sponsored a paper entitled "Progress on Commercialized Road Management in Sub-Saharan Africa" that was presented at the 6th Africa Transport Technology Transfer (T2) Conference. It served as a platform to disseminate the findings of study, which assesses progress on road management practices in Sub-Saharan Africa and the framework for assessing the performance of commercialized road management in the continent.
