3rd Joint UITP & SSATP Webinar: Presentation of the Shuttlers case study

For the third edition of the UITP and SSATP webinar series on "Innovations and New Solutions for Small / Individual Bus Operators - How to Adapt to the New Normal," Ms. Damilola Olokesusi presented a case study on Shuttlers, a call-in app for commuters in Lagos, Nigeria. With the Shuttlers app, commuters can book and pay for seats in advance on their preferred route, track the itinerary of their trip, and receive real-time notifications on arrival and departure times.

Policies for Sustainable Accessibility and Mobility in Urban Areas of Nigeria - Policy & Strategy Paper

Within the framework of the urban transport and mobility pillar, the African Transport Policy Program (SSATP) launched an activity to support eight pilot countries (Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Guinea, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal) in the development of policies to improve accessibility and mobility in urban areas of Africa.  Six thematic areas were considered as priorities:

2nd ARSO Workshop in Abuja: Towards the Establishment of a Road Safety Observatory in Africa

This document summarizes attendees, agenda and outcomes of the 2nd workshop held in Nigeria which had an intense focus on the definition of a minimum number of crash-related variables to be collected at the country level. It also rose awareness of the many country-level evaluations conducted by one agency or another in recent years in the continent regarding road safety and road safety data issues.

Case Study on Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria is one out of a few outstanding road safety lead agencies in Sub-Saharan Africa. It has considerable human (18 098 staff in 2012), logistical and financial resources ($178,500,371 of budgetary allocation in 2012), is well organized, professionally managed, uses modern technology in its operations, and is able to show results. Its history goes back more than 25 years and it has a vast amount of experience and institutional memory to draw on.

Improving Rural Transport Policy Framework in Uganda and Nigeria

This activity involves support to the formulation of rural transport policies, strategies and action plans in line with an improved policy framework developed by SSATP to facilitate the effective contribution of rural transport to poverty reduction and growth. This framework is an important element of policy recommendations proposed by SSATP for rural transport. Its emphasis is on integrating rural transport with the rural development framework, and a closer linkage with the agriculture sector.

2018 Annual Meeting Proceedings

The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) is a legal requirement set forth in the governance structure of the pro-gram. The central theme of the 2018 AGM was “Africa’s rapid urbanization and the response to urban mobility in the digital era.” This report captures the main conclusions and recommendations coming out of the discussions held at the AGM and its associated events on July 2–6, 2018 in Abuja, Nigeria.

2018 SSATP Annual Meeting (Presentations)

The Annual Meeting of the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) was held in Abuja, Nigeria during the week of July 2-6, 2018. Over 250 participants attended the meeting from 30 countries (11 Ministers, 6 Permanent Secretaries), 7 Regional Economic Communities (ECOWAS, SADC, CEEAC, UEMOA, EAC, COMESA, IGAD), and 11 International Financing Institutions and Development Partners (EU, AfDB, AFD, WBG, GIZ, ISDB, UNECA, IRU, JICA, USAID, AUC).
