Discounts from standard fares

Continuing travel authority often incorporates a discount over the combined single-trip fares in order (at least partially) to compensate the passenger for the cost of the interchange. That level of discount has to be accepted, and accounted for, by each of the carriers involved. In cases where there is a high level of regular commuter travel within the system, it is common practice for the second operator to provide the rebate and the grounds that he will be the first operator for the return journey.
