Information at terminal or stop

The range of information provided will depend on the policy of the authority if that is responsible for providing the information, or of the operator(s) if they are. Confusion must be avoided where there are multiple operators using the same terminal or stop, particularly where they have differing fare structures or products, or offer differing qualities of service.

Where information is provided, at the minimum it should state the applicable fares, or the means of calculating these in more complex stage-based or zonal fare structures. It should also describe the processes for buying tickets and validating them in the transport system.  Additional guidance on the range of available ticket categories, and on the ways to access further information, may also be provided.

Sometimes no information is made available at the stop, with this then being provided on the vehicle instead. This may be because the stop design does not enable information to be provided in an adequate format, or perhaps the information cannot readily be updated in a competitive market.

Where information is provided, provisions need to be put in place for the maintenance and repair of the sites and for the updating of the information. The information available should be kept legible and current. Regular users may be familiar with their usual fares but, for other trips and other users, any lack of information may then create delays when boarding the vehicle.
