Management of electronic security

Management of electronic security is influenced by the system design, so that the operational, revenue collection and data collation and analysis objectives are correctly embodied within the design parameters and that the hardware, software and communications media linking them and the system stakeholders are correctly established.

This enables the technical specifications to be identified; this will include the security features and prevention of unauthorized access or interception within the system. Individual fare systems are unique, even though they may possess many characteristics common with other systems – therefore it is important that the manufacturer includes factory acceptance testing of all customized equipment and that the tested equipment is then site tested upon the proposed system before acceptance into production and delivery.

It is then important that the installation of the equipment across the system, which may include many unique situational variants within the generic equipment installations [such as the unique characteristics of some types of vehicles and for some off-system locations], has been tested for integrity and security before the project is considered inaugurated.
In addition, the system design must include inherent real-time monitoring of integrity and audit, and alarm systems to highlight variances or failures.
