Route-specific flat fares

In this case, a flat fare is authorized for a specific route or service. This is then normally based primarily on the length of the route, but other factors such as the potential commercial speed and the level of demand may also be taken into account.

Clearly this system offers the disadvantages of any flat fare, as examined above, but can also lead to different fares applying on common sections of route to the confusion of passengers and the detriment of the operator charging the higher fare over this.
