Rencontre Strategique de Haut Niveau du SSATP -- Rapport

This report covers the high-level strategic meeting convened in the offices of Irish Aid in Dublin on June 28 and 29, 2006. Participants, consisting of a group of donors and African stakeholders, focused on: (i) strengthening the engagement of donors with Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) in support of Long Term Development Plan (LTDP) results -- particularly the outputs of the PRTSR; (ii) the role of SSATP in facilitating the effective use of donor resources to reduce poverty in sub-Saharan Africa; and (iii) how these issues will be addressed at the Annual Meeting and what some of the priority outcomes should be. The objectives of the meeting were to reach agreement on: 1. How to strengthen the engagement of donors with SSATP, particularly in support of transport strategies anchored in poverty reduction (Session 1); 2. the role of SSATP in facilitating the increased use of ODA for transport in SSA to achieve the goals of poverty reduction / pro-poor growth and to meet agreed principles on aid effectiveness (Session 2); 3. how issues 1. and 2. should be addressed at the 2006 Annual Meeting, and the people who should be involved (Session 3); and 4. the follow-up actions to be taken, including advance preparations for the 2006 Annual Meeting (Session 4).

Rapport annuel SSATP 2005

Implementation of the Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) Long Term Development Plan (LTDP) accelerated in 2005. Work program activities of the LTDP intensified and started to deliver results. The program's principal objective and main focus remained that of anchoring transport in poverty reduction strategies. The year also saw increased involvement of high level policy makers in the policy development process. At the level of the African Union, the Ministers of Transport adopted transport targets and indicators for achieving the MDG. The Ministerial Forum convened during the 2005 SSATP Annual Meeting resolved, inter alia, to move ahead with the recommendations of the poverty reduction-transport strategy reviews, and other key aspects necessary to accelerate implementation of the LTDP.

Réunion annuelle 2005 du SSATP -- Bamako, Mali

Hosted by the Government of Mali in the capital city of Bamako, the main part of the 2005 Annual Meeting of Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) stakeholders took place from November 14th to 18th. As preliminary meeting activities commenced on November 10th, the 2005 event occupied nearly eight days. The Meeting addressed issues identified by SSATP members and partners as the most important and challenging for the development of transport in line with Africa's visions and needs, including: developing transport strategies that contribute to poverty reduction; strengthening the links between transport, trade and regional integration; establishing sound institutions and financing arrangements for the roads sector; managing increased financing from development partners; creating a future vision for transport in Africa; improving the mobility of the urban poor; and ensuring that the voices of women are heard in LTDP implementation.

Processus d'analyse des stratégies de transport et de réduction de la pauvreté -- Rapport d'activité 2005

The strategic objective of the Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Program (SSATP) for the period 2004-2007 is to anchor national transport strategies firmly in national goals and strategies for poverty reduction. To achieve this objective, a participatory process that enables country stakeholders to review and adapt their poverty reduction and transport strategies is being progressively implemented in SSATP member countries. This report presents an overview of the progress made by November 2005 in implementing Poverty Reduction-Transport Strategy Reviews (PRTSR) in SSATP member countries. The first chapter, written by the PRTSR Lead Coordinating Consultant, briefly summarizes the objectives and elements of the PRTSR process, the support being provided by SSATP to participating countries, and emerging lessons and findings. Subsequent chapters contain brief progress reports submitted by participating countries. These reports summarize the experiences of implementing the PRTSR process, and - for countries that have completed their reviews - the resulting recommendations and follow-up actions. Most but not all PRTSR countries submitted progress reports.
