Consolidation of sales revenues varies in complexity depending on the scale of activities and the range of revenue sources. It is simplest among owner-drivers who only collect their own revenues and most complex where the fares collection system may involve several operators with their collections accruing variously from on-board sales by crew,  sales from automated vending machines in various locations, and from off-system agents and internet-based sales channels.

Allied to the method of sale is the creation of robust audit trails that routinely track the revenues from these various sources through to the collated deposits in the banking system, so that the movements are fully captured and evidenced. This process also enables primary data to be collected on revenue sources and allocations for inclusion within the routine management information system.
