Period fares

Again most urban passenger transport systems in developed countries offer discounts for regular travel over extended periods, ranging from a week up to a year. Passes for the longer periods are typically supported by photo identification, or are incorporated on a smart-card.

The benefit to the service provider is the guaranteed patronage, the reduced working capital requirement, and the reduced sales administration. The danger lies in potential fraud arising from the value of the longer-duration passes.
