Operator enterprise management

Description / objective

This function relates to a passenger transport industry structure with one or more formal operators each then acting as a discrete business enterprise. The function includes the development of an organizational structure, and of a business plan, the implementation of decision-support and management information systems, and processes for continuous business improvement.

ITS applications

None, though development of the business plan may be informed by data generated from certain ITS applications such as electronic fare collection systems and ITS-facilitated functions such as service performance analysis and vehicle consumption monitoring.

Advantages and cautions

An operator may commit to a technology-driven approach to continuous business improvement, and ITS applications would then form an integral part of this process.
